He teaches both the physical and philosophical aspects of the art by placing emphasis on the principle that karate is not just a good workout, but a discipline that leads to the development of character. He is a meticulous, yet compassionate instructor. Sensei Valdés is assisted by a team of highly competent and enthusiastic Shotokan Karate instructors and practitioners.

In 2007, she began training under Sensei Emil Valdés and has been a dedicated student since then. In 2015, she earned her 3rd degree black belt and is now teaching with Sensei Valdés at the Natomas Family Karate Academy. She enjoys working out with her daughter, Noelle who is a 2nd degree black belt and her 2 sons, Jacob and Gabriel.
